Marley is an 18 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback cross and is currently on foster in Penarth. Marley is in foster with a smaller terrier and has adapted well to sharing his space with another dog. He has also been fine when meeting dogs when out and about however if the dog approaches “rudely†he can react so we are looking for a home where positive socialization can be continued.
Marley is in foster with a cat but the cat has been living upstairs and Marley downstairs. There has been no reaction when paths have crossed on opposite side of the baby gate! With careful introductions he may be able to be rehomed with cats.
Marley loves people and gets excited when visitors arrive but will settle down after initial jumping up. He is in foster with older teenagers and enjoys their contact. He is a strong bouncy dog and has had little interaction with younger children so we would be looking for a home without young children.
Marley has a good level of basic training and recalls well though so far this has been on a long line. He will need some further work on loose lead walking and his initial excitement when meeting people but he has been learning quickly using positive based training. He is well behaved at meal times and will sit patiently. He takes offered treats gently but will help himself if food is left unattended. He is housetrained.
Marley has been left in the home with canine company and may be suitable for full time workers with another dog, though would need a break during the day and a good run before and after work. He is none possessive over toys and treats and apart from a couple of dog beds being unstuffed has been non-destructive in the home. He is happy being touched all over and will happily share your knee!
Unfortunately Marley has been unable to be castrated yet as he developed a phobia of the car. His foster hoem have been working slowly on trying to overcome this but its still work in progress. He will now put his front feet on the seats with slow and gentle positive based encouragement but has yet to lift his back feet off terra firma. His new home must be willing to continue this slow process to allow Marley to overcome this fear.
In summary, Marley is looking for an active home with previous experience of large breeds and the patience to continue his training with positive based methods at his own speed. He would love a home with a large secure garden to charge around.
All Hope Rescue dogs are neutered, vaccinated, wormed, flea treated and microchipped prior to rehoming. A homecheck will be required, and you will need to come and meet the dog with your own dogs and family. We have a suggested minimum donation of £160.
